Coconut milk is the liquid that comes from the grated meat inside a brown coconut. Coconut milk is a popular food ingredient in Asia, the Caribbean and South America.
The colour and taste of Coconut milk is due to the high oil content. Knowing the oil content is therefore important and the method for measurement critical. The reference method is based on Soxhlet or hot solvent extraction in combination with gravimetric measurement. Unfortunately, it is difficult to get fast and reliable results.
